The Limone sul Garda Cycle Route

A smart guide to the suspended cycle route; an engineering masterpiece that can be explored on foot or by bike.

The Limone sul Garda cycle route has, in just a few years, become one of the most iconic places on Lake Garda. Opened in July 2018, it is a fine example of engineering that blends seamlessly into the landscape. The structure consists of a 2.5-metre-wide walkway stretching for approximately 2.5 kilometres, anchored to the rock via a system of steel beams and suspended directly above the surface of the lake. The result is a unique panoramic route where you can walk or cycle literally ‘suspended’ above the water of Lake Garda, with views stretching across the entire eastern shore and the majestic Monte Baldo.

How to reach the Limone sul Garda cycle route

The section currently open connects the localities of Capo Reamol with Pescarol, just outside the town of Limone sul Garda. To reach the entrance to the cycle path, you need to walk an initial stretch of about 1.7 kilometres from the town centre, following Via Nova, and then Via Reamol along the Sentiero del Sole. The route begins near the Church of San Rocco, a small 16th-century votive chapel, and continues through terraced olive groves, stone walls and viewpoints that offer a foretaste of the spectacular view that awaits you on the suspended walkway.

The Limone sul Garda cycle route is open both to pedestrians and cyclists, although the crowds of tourists during the summer months make walking the better option. Cycling is still possible and very enjoyable, but requires greater care and a moderate speed, especially near bends. The entire route is exposed to the sun and offers no shade. My advice is to avoid the middle of the day, especially in summer, and to set off with water and sun cream in your backpack.

Where to park in Limone sul Garda

It is possible to reach the Limone cycle route directly by car or motorbike, but there are very few car parks near Capo Reamol and they are rarely free. The most practical solution I suggest is to leave your car in the (paid) car parks in the centre of Limone and proceed on foot. The most convenient options are the multi-storey car park in Via Lungolago Marconi (608 spaces with three charging points and six sockets), the nearby open-air Lungolago Marconi car park (111 spaces with one charging point and two sockets), or the multi-storey car park in Via Caldogno (270 spaces with motorhome parking).

During the summer season, there is also a shuttle service connecting the town centre with the start of the cycle route, a useful option for those who prefer to avoid the initial walk. Visitors arriving from other towns around Lake Garda can reach Limone by boat thanks to the many ferry services that also allow bicycles on board.

The Ciclovia del Garda project

The Limone cycle route is also the first step in a much more ambitious project: the Ciclovia del Garda, a cycle loop which, according to local authorities, should allow people to travel the entire perimeter of Lake Garda on foot or by bicycle. It is a fascinating project with great tourist potential, but its full implementation currently appears very complex. The missing sections would pass through built-up areas and topographically challenging terrain, require substantial investment, and involve three regions with strategic visions that are often not aligned. For this reason, although it remains a project desired by many people, it seems improbably that the complete loop will be completed in a short period.

Leaving aside this purely administrative aspect, the fact remains that visiting the Limone cycle route is essential for admiring Lake Garda from a different perspective. Suspended between water and rock, surrounded by the vastness of the landscape and away from the chaotic traffic of the Gardesana road. An experience that combines sport with nature and embodies a new idea of mobility, which is more respectful of the environment. A project that keeps growing and which GardaClick will follow with interest in its future developments.
