Imagine you are crossing a long suspended bridge, with the emptiness under your feet and nature opening up in a breathtaking view. In this article I will take you to discover the Tibetan Bridge of Crero, a hidden corner of Lake Garda, located in the municipality of Torri del Benaco.
The excursion to the Tibetan Bridge of Crero begins by leaving the car in the parking area (for a fee) in the proximity of the old village of Crero. From here you proceed on foot through some houses, following the clear signs at various points along the route.
Leaving the village of Crero, you arrive at the small church of San Siro, from here you must follow the path to the left, in the direction of Pai. In this first part of the route, there are no particular differences in height to overcome and you can enjoy the beautiful landscape that opens up over Lake Garda. After about 15 minutes of walking, the path begins to climb slightly, entering into denser vegetation. From this point onwards, the landscape becomes wilder and the terrain rougher, requiring some extra care when walking.
About halfway between the village of Crero and the Tibetan Bridge, there is a small clearing with some tables and benches suitable for a picnic. Having passed this part of the route, the last stretch begins, leading in about ten minutes' walk to the Tibetan Bridge of Crero.
Inaugurated in 2019, this 34.7-metre-long steel bridge, suspended 42 metres above the stream, allowed to connect the CAI paths 38 and 39 of Valzana Valley, simplifying the transit along the 'senter de mes' or middle path, an ancient route that stretches from Malcesine to Garda. The non-slip walkway of the bridge, a distinctive feature, guarantees safety and accessibility, differentiating it from traditional Tibetan Bridges that often have more precarious surfaces.
The load-bearing capacity of the bridge, limited to 15 people at a time, ensures a safe and controlled crossing while maintaining structural integrity and the safety of people. The design of the bridge not only offers a breathtaking view of the surrounding landscape, but is also an excellent example of how modern architecture can integrate harmoniously with the natural environment.
The excursion to the Tibetan Bridge of Crero is suitable for all hiking enthusiasts and presents no particular problems. Please note that the slight swaying of the bridge may cause some hesitation for those who suffer from vertigo. I suggest wearing appropriate footwear and always behaving cautiously and respectfully towards the natural environment.
