Amongst the high peaks that dominate the northern part of Lake Garda, there are some routes of absolute beauty, many of which can be hiked even by less trained hikers. One of these routes is certainly the Punta Larici trail, one of the most popular and most photographed places in the whole area.
Geographically, the Punta Larici trail is located near Riva del Garda, in the Trentino part of Lake Garda.
This hike starts from the parish church of San Giorgio in the small village of Pregasina, a pretty little village at an altitude of 535 metres above sea level. Near this religious building there is a small car park where it is possible to park the car, although it is good to remember that the few places available may run out in a short time.
To walk to Punta Larici, take forest path 422B in the direction of Malga Palaer. In the initial section, the walk is slightly uphill and then increases gently after a few hundred metres. From this point, the path enters into a beautiful wooded area.
The trail then leads to Bocca Larici, where you exit the forest and your gaze can finally sweep over the surrounding mountains. From here, keeping to the left, it takes about ten minutes to reach the summit of Punta Larici at an altitude of 907 metres above sea level. From this point it is possible to admire the entire Lake Garda in all its majesty.
Looking north there is the beautiful Riva del Garda with nearby Monte Brione, then there is Torbole and Monte Altissimo di Nago. Facing front is Monte Baldo and looking south, there is the Sirmione peninsula. For more sporty people, it is possible to lengthen the route by leaving directly from the centre of Riva del Garda and take the Ponale trail following the signs to Pregasina.
This excursion of just over 3 kilometres (one way) is suitable for everyone and can also be done on a mountain bike. However, it should be remembered that the final section of the Punta Larici trail is exposed to strong winds and direct sunlight, so appropriate clothing is recommended and care should be taken at rocky overhanging points.
