GARDA

The little town named Garda can be found on the eastern lake bank,. The richness of the landscape makes this town one of the most highly frequented tourist resorts of the entire Gardesan territory. The town is situated on a wide bay with a fortress behind and is closed by the wonderful San Virgilio top. This one from a morphological point of view, can be appointed as a Baldo mountain appendix, it stretches out till it touches the waters of the lake. On the northern side it follows the magnificent Sirens bay, a romantic grove rich in vegetation.
The natural protection offered by the surrounding mountains favour a mild microclimate that makes Garda an all year round resort. The town has an artistic heritage that is complimented by the beauty of the local villas and residences. All of which make Garda a qualified tourist resort, with many local amenities.

Garda made its place in history with the first pilework settlement. It then became a Roman centre, always keeping a particular notoriety even in the Longobarda age and also in its French period. The town was originally under Verona's control until it was controlled by Venice. This locality was for a long time the Giudiacaria Gardese seat, an administration that ruled most of the Hinterland.

The Capitani del Lago building can sum up the influence of Venice. The structure is fronted and adorned by small windows with three lobe arches, and whose porticoes make it stand out. This palace, which appears on the never filled harbour, looks out over the exquisite little square. A popular area, with tourists, with its numerous coffee bars.
Venice's influence can also be found at the Fregoso Palace that was constructed in the fifteenth Century. Even today it has a magnificent frontage, enriched by a mullion with two light windows, which are located over a large arch. The Carlotti Palace is a beautiful reinassance building, which was once embellished by a wonderful lake bank garden.
The remainder is highlighted by the typical features introduced probably by the renaissance architect Michele Sanmicheli.

Also the Loggia presents a clear influence of the Verona architect. This can be seen in the dock and terrace with a view of this residential complex.

The inhabited centre of Villa Canossa appears besides the lake. It is a jewel of renaissance architecture, realised in the sixteenth century and restored in the nineteenth century. It nowadays keeps the look that it was originally given.

Villa Albertini is another magnificent residence. This building, with fifteenth and sixteenth century origins, was changed mostly in the eighteenth century. Its notoriety has been granted by the blending of styles with angular embattlements and classical elements. Among these the Palladio mark such as the ones on the front crowned by a three-part tympanum. The sixteenth century Villa Guarineti- designed by Agostino Brenzone- rises on the San Virgilio top. The open gallery of the Italian garden, instead, has to be attributed to Sanmicheli.
